ESSDERC-2002 will be jointly organized by the Department of Electronics, Computer and System Science (DEIS), and by the Advanced-Research Center on Electronic Systems for Information and Communication Technologies (ARCES) of the University of Bologna.
Nine centuries of history and unbroken tradition and contribution to the European culture, make University of Bologna unique, and enhance its stature as an outstanding seat of learning and research in a wide range of disciplines. The aim of the University is to promote the advancement of knowledge and to provide the training and skills required to practice a wide range of professions. The University of Bologna is a state institution, like the majority in Italy, and with 100,000 students it is one of the largest in the country.
DEIS started in 1983 from the merging of two former Institutes of Electronics and Automation Systems. The research and educational activities at DEIS comprise the following areas: Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Automation, Operations Research and Biomedical Engineering. The staff exceeds 100 units including Professors, Researchers, Technicians and Administratives.
ARCES started
in May 2001 at the University of Bologna with the goal of developing innovative
electronic systems, and to carry out the technology transfer of the more
relevant research results to the National and European Industry. This goal is
being pursued by setting up interdisciplinary teams with the skills and
competence that are needed to face the challenges posed by the design,
fabrication and test of modern electronic systems. The idea behind ARCES is the
integration of the activities that are presently carried out within each
homogeneous group, and the exploitation of all possible synergies via a
convergence of the research objectives. Such a process is becoming more and more
important because the level of integration made possible by the modern
microelectronic technology requires a combination of system knowledge and design
skill that overcome the boundaries of single disciplinary areas. Maria Teresa Tibaldi [Home][General Info][Scope
